kitchen sink tap, fridge, flush problems

Postby mozza » Sun Apr 29, 2007 8:44 pm

i have just purchased a Hobby 700 uk.
the problem is i snapped the tap off (i think it was only glued on, as it came off easily).
does anyone know where i can get a new one as the caravan dealer i bought it off is giving me the run around.
next problem is when the fridge is connected up to the mains it blows the main fuse, i got an electrician out who said the fridge element needs replacing as the is tripping out the circuits. where can i purchas one.
finally if i overfill the flush by accident which i did, water comes out into the caravan from under the toilet, how can i stop this.
if anyone can help it will be m,uch appreciated.
thanks

kitchen sink tap, fridge, flush problems

Postby traveller11 » Fri Oct 19, 2007 6:28 pm

Hi Mozza.

1) If your taps are Chrome Plate Plastic and the name "Comet" can be seen anywhere on them then suggest you try sending an e-mail to the following company, and attach a digital picture or 2 if you can, preferably of the tap when removed from the caravan as you can better determine the model etc:

Rose & Company (Hull) Ltd [info@roseandcompany.co.uk]

Office Address is as follows:

Rose & Company (Hull) Limited
Westmoreland Street
HULL
HU2 0HS

2) Cannot help on your fridge problem but would have thought that looking up Electrolux/Dometic on the Internet might provide some leads to contact.

3) "Flush problems" Forgive my cynicism but try using a smaller bottle for filling or topping up the water holder. Seriously though I use a 5 litre Robinsons Barley Water plastic bottle, as I find this fills the water tank and sufficiently for around 3 days use (2 Adults) then when I empty the chemical bit the water flush tank needs filling up again.
I also have a clear plastic tube attached via a rubber tube that shows the level of water in the flush section which I fill so that the water rises in this to just below the filling neck.

Hope this helps.

Traveller 11, did you fit this sight tube? Some earlier models had it as standard but it is no longer fitted to the latest Thetford 400 series toilets. I seem to recall someone saying they had fitted one to a 400 series but I can't find the reference. The only way of knowing it is full is by filling the clip on filler funnel to the top. Other than that it is impossible to know how much is left in the flush tank.

@Mozza, it helps if you give the year of the van when seeking technical help.

Loo Water Sight Tube.

Postby traveller11 » Sat Oct 20, 2007 11:55 am

Hi Beejay.

No I did not fit the Plastic/Rubber Sight Tube.
Our 495UFe is a 2002 model, not sure what model Loo is fitted but the waste tank is the long model as opposed to the short type that you see fitted to M/Homes.

I would still suggest trying a bottle of known quantity say 3 or 5 litres of water and then use the flush system till the water runs out, then re-fill but just in case you run out of water at an awkward moment, having filled the flush then re-fill the 3 or 5 litre container and keep it handy, like outside but near to the door!

The alternative would be to contact Tetford and see if you can get the Plastic/Rubber Sight Tube as a kit.

Thetford Website is as follows:

Taps are not special Hobby ones and can usually be obtained from any good accessory shop, its just a case of acquiring the correct model...heater elements are readily available and are not mega expensive...try the website www.miriad-products.com

Hello Mozza & Beejay!

After a visit to the NEC yesterday and a few questions on your behalf's I can now provide further information on your ???'s

1) Errant "Loo".
From Tech Rep on Thetford Stand.
If your Loo is the swivel seat type then "No you cannot fit the clear plastic/rubber tube" if it is the Fixed type with the large flush button on one side and Loo Roll holder on the other side then yes you can.

2) For a replacement tap or taps after speaking to the Miriad Tech Rep he was not sure if any of the products they sold would fit the hole in your worktop or sink, however C.A.K Tanks who were opposite had a large range of taps and could answer the question and provide a replacement at a reasonable price, although Whale Taps were considerably more expensive than the others they had in stock.

C.A.K Tanks also had a series of their own brand of taps that would directly replace the Chrome finish taps normally fitted to Hobby.

Hi Guys.

There are around 75 Taps (5 Pages) in the C.A.K Tanks catalogue with a few that are direct replacement for the 'Comet' Taps that are normally fitted.

Sorry but I can only find 5 Taps in the website link, 4 on the link and an extra 1 when you hit the 'Taps' link in the directory.
