hobby 650 transformer

Postby wood » Fri Apr 27, 2007 1:03 pm

I have a 2005 Prestige 650 UMFE that was imported and I am the second owner, I bought it with a dud mains/12v transformer which failed in the first few months of use but the owner never bothered to get it replaced .
I was told by a hobby dealer that it was caused by using a generator which I found strange as I am sure a lot of caravan owners use a generator.
I got a replacement unit a Dometic Model no. CON2140100 Product no. 991 00 35-04 Voltage in/out 230v - 12.7v and fitted same, didnt use the van at all as it was over the winter but checked all the electrical systems were working and cleaned out the water system ran the heating etc and then left it for a few weeks.
I then came back to the van and turned on the power and later the kitchen tap to flush through some water and the transformer seems to have failed again, flashes and clicks came from it and then went dead and all electrics are off.
I have tried to get an answer by email from the german hobby dealer who supplied the replacement unit Ernst Caravan who now I am not about to give them money seem to have gone deaf.
Has anyone had a similar problem or does anyone know what this is likely to be caused by, I am loath to buy another untit and have the same happen again.
TIA
Bob
p.s.
Since I posted this Ernst have replied at last ( since Jan 2007 ) and told me to send the unit back for inspection and possible replacement.

Hi Bob, here Chris from the Netherlands. I have the same problem. I bought a new Hobby in 2005. In that year it happenend once that the powersupply failed. I found out that it came due quick external variations in the power. So if the mainpower drops and come up in about 2 minutes the 12v will be unavailable.
What I do is... I turn the power supply of bij the main switch and wait five minutes. Then turn it on and everything works fine.
This year I was on a campingsite with several powerdrops. And everytime the "reset"of the con2140100 helped.
Regards Chris
