CHASSIS FAILURE

Postby mickyfinn » Wed Apr 02, 2008 2:31 pm

Sirs

We have, whilst touring Europe, experienced two major chassis/suspension failures on our 14 month old caravan.

In the opinion of a Lloyds recommended surveyor - either of these failures could have seriously effected our safety and that of other road users.

The manufacturer is being particularly difficult in their approach to our problems to the extent where we have, at our own expense, low loaded the unit back to the UK having had the unit branded unroadworthy and unsafe bythe surveyor.

We would appreciate any suggestions that you may have on how we should continue with this matter.

Regards

John Harrison

To add to Beejay's queries, what was the gross caravan weight at the time?

Hi Roy,
Enjoying your trip? Wish I was there. Can't get away until June this year but may fit a TGV trip to somewhere for fun. Bedford to Paris £68 return! Thinking more of Avignon or somewhere similar.

Re previous post. Do you think it may have been an e-mail or letter intended for a company? It's certainly written in letter format. Bit worrying. Have you followed the wheel failure posts on other forums? Seems ALKO may have a batch of axles where the bearing circlip is missing. Perhaps we are O.K. BuyProperWheels is the answer!

Hi John,
No response from you. Did you intend to send what you have posted to a company? If so, if your problems are with a Hobby caravan there are some of us who are interested. PM me if you don't wish to post on an open forum.
In any event, your claim is with the supplier of the caravan and the time limit is not restricted to the 12 month warranty.

Hi Beejay,

Yes I did see the alko posts but if this is a Hobby, then they would not apply.

I would be interested in whether the caravan was overloaded and what the rear suspenion of the towing vehicle is.

Hear that you have snow this morning, 20 degrees, blue skies and sun here.

I do like the Avignon area.

Hi Roy,
0*C and 100mm of wet snow first thing but all gone now. Missed my Sunday trips to MK Bowl for several weeks because of weather. Where are you in France, touring or static?

Beejay,

I have a Knaus tourer in Beaune, Burgundy but am at present at my house near Quillan in l'Aude, between Carcassonne and Perpignan.

I return to the caravan tomorrow prior to going up to the shuttle on Wednesday.

I know Quillan. That's a bl++dy steep hill down from Nébias...on snow! Puivert lives nearby then at...Puivert? Bit off ex-pat territory?

Shame no more on the chassis failure, was it a letter mis-directed, and/or a Hobby involved??????

Safe return, regards Beejay
