Why are you using a convertor between the "twinny" bottle and reg? I use "twinnys" but also use the regulator the clips directly to the bottle. The reason you have "frost" is because the take off rate is too high. The twinny reg will give 1500 kg/hour but I can't read the take off rate on your reg!! This summer I bought, on offer, two twinnys with a regulator for €12 (£8) the two, from a French supermarket and my previous ones were only about £8 each. Do Calor rip us off???? B & Q sell "patio gas" in French bottles filled by Calor at £40 bottle + gas or "only" £14 for a refill of 5 kg.
Beejay, the GDK regulator you see in the picture is the standard one fitted to German Hobbys. This regulator is 'fixed' onto the orange 'flying lead' gas hose leading to the copper gas piping of the Hobby. German dealers will not modify it, as it's against their regs.
A set of different adapters are available to connect the 'standard?' left hand thread of this regulator to various gas cylinders, including the standard POL fitting of Calor propane cylinders
Those getting their 'vans in Germany invariably go with a 6kg Calor Propane cylinder and get this adapter from the dealer.
In the case of the Twiny 'dumpy' cylinders there is a clip on attachment and so a 'tap adapter' e.g.
is required to fit the GDK regulator to the cylinder.
I also got a Twiny regulator in the 'summer deal' when I got the 2 cylinders and use that for my Spanish Paella cooker; see below.
Like you, I find these cylinders far more economical than Calor (less than 11€ for a re-fill) and also a more convenient shape. I carry two on the Continent, while in UK I use one Calor cylinder and a Twiny (see original photo of the frosting).
BTW the frosting isn't due to excessive take-off of gas (Hobby-fitted regulator is used), more to do with the fact that it was very damp and the outside temp. was 2-3°C!
