Weight upgrade?

Postby traveller11 » Thu Jan 24, 2008 4:35 am

Hi everyone.

I am wondering if anyone has successfully carried out any modifications to their Hobby to improve their payload capabilities?

I understand that you can request a higher payload capacity when placing an order for a new Hobby from the factory which gives you a different 'plate' on the side of the Hobby, e.g. Normal 1300Kg you can order 1500Kg.

I wondered if anyone had carried out an Upgrade having bought their Hobby and if 'Yes' what exactly did this entail?

Many thanks.

The factory upgrade includes heavier suspension. Hobbys use steel torsion bars inside the axle. Often this is all that is involved but heavier brakes/dampers/tyres may also be involved. It is not a practical DIY conversion and, anyway, you would not get an upgraded plate as Hobby have to issue the appropriate paperwork. I had a Burstner fitted with a heavier suspension at ALKO in Germany in 2000. They would not upgrade the plate as it was a non-standard conversion, not a factory build job.

Having asked the question of the Dealer in Germany via e-mail I understand that if your Hobby is prior to 2006 it cannot be carried out retrospectively.
