Ultraheat

Postby miff » Sun Feb 20, 2005 10:35 am

Hi All,
I have just stumbled across the Truma web site and whilst browsing over the site noticed an Electrical Supplementary Heater. This is an electrical element fitted inside the gas heater fitted in our caravans. It looks like an ideal solution to heat my caravan using the electric hook up. It can be fitted with a timer and thermostat. I wondered if anyone had this fitted? How good is it? And the main question how expensive? This Must be a better way than the fan heater I use at present.

My mate has got this fitted to his 710..It gives him three heat settings of 500 watt...1000 watt and 2000 watt and very effective it is too...His was already fitted when he bought his van but we think the cost is about £280 for the unit and about 2 hours labour to fit it. He has had a heater vent fitted to the outside of his van so heat from the system can be directed into the awning to warm that up. In all a brilliant system but might take alot of usage to justify the initial cost and get your money back so to speak.

Hope I'm not too late but I have just joined. I have fitted the Truma ultraheat myself. Physically, an easy job, electrically easy if you know how. I bought the kit from Miriad products at www.miriad-products.com or 01283 511883. Cost me £114.26 + vat + p&p. It works great, three power settings, with or without fan, and controller is thermostatic.

VinceGander,
Thanks for the info. That seems like a very good price but just how easy is it to fit? Is there an installation document in the kit? I'm not an electrician nor am I Corgi registered. Do you think the average DIY enthusiast could fit it?

I know you can buy a lot of gas for that, but we find it a nice background heat, very controllable with the thermostat provided and above all you don't get that "hot" smell that seems to come with the gas.
As far as fitting goes, yes there are full and detailed instructions. The first thing you have to do is disconnect the gas feed underneath the caravan, this is an easy spanner job and it goes back just as easilly. Next is the physical installation of the element - that is a simple screwdriver job, then you fit the thermostat through a drill hole in the side of the wardrobe and the unit plugs into the element box with a pre-made lead. Connecting the mains is a matter of connecting into the distribution board, if you know how, it's easy, otherwise I might suggest you do everything up to that point and then just get an electrician to connect up for you -must be a lot less than the dealers quote of £275 fitted.

The trumaultraheat is an incredibly performing machine and I can say it gives me three heat settings. Anyway, make sure you have fitted the system correctly so as to warm the awning. The customer support from myriad products have been nothing but excellent and I think it is a good choice that you have made!
