Installing a car radio/cd in my Hobby.

Postby daklay » Wed Feb 22, 2006 9:46 pm

Hi you Experts,

I hope that I am posting this question in the correct page so here goes.

I want to install my spare radio/cd player to my van. Installing the unit and wiring it up is not the problem (unless there are pitfalls that anyone knows about!). My question is regarding the aerial:

Can anyone advise me if I can connect to the FM point my Status Aerial with a modified lead or does it require a seperate antenna? If it needs the latter has anyone any ideas on type, method of fixing etc.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Steven, assuming your Status aerial actually works (many don't!) then yes, it should work the radio OK.

I had an amplified radio aerial thingy attached to the side of my 'van by the Ambergate Service Centre. This connects to my old car radio cassette and the FM reception is fine but the AM reception never seems as good as in the car. Anyone know why?
Cheers, Doc.

Thanks you Guys,

At least I now have a choice and will check out the possibilities as suggested. If I have total success on reception etc I will post my findings.

Thanks again

I agree witrh you on this, I too have a make shift aerial and am a big believer in not cutting/drilling the van unless you have too.

Have you not considered a mini or midi system Nick ...
1) place it where it's convenient (shelf/awning/bedroom)
2) no cutting and external aerial worries (unless you want to)
3) a fraction of the price for superior quality
4) easily replaceable if it does go wrong

I did, but I had the spare stereo and speakers and once they are fixed down its something less to worry about.
