Cable routing - 540UFe

Postby johnbradbury » Sat Oct 29, 2005 9:15 pm

I am wanting to run a cable from the wardrobe across the front of the caravan to the TV cabinet.
The only problem for this is passing it through the gap under the toilet floor as there is only a very small exit hole to find - and I have to make a 90 degree turn with the cable as well.

I have tried using a drain spring as a prodder to add a string to butwith no success.

I don't want to drill through the floor if at all possible

Anyone tried this and suceeded?

If not any bright ideas?

Hi John,

I presume you've looked under the board in the wardrobe, behind the heater, because in my 'van, and those of others, there is a TV cable running from the exterior outlet socket on the side of the 'van all the way across the front of the 'van ending coiled up behind the heater! This is for connection of a roof aerial in the wardrobe, presumably. Hence no need to run a cable past the loo as it's already there!!

Now many of us have reversed the 'outlet' connection to make it an 'inlet' for a TV aerial (VHF) &/or SAT dish. I've then run a cable from the back of this connection to the TV 'table' on the 'door-side' of my 'van. The in situ cable running to the wardrobe isn't presently used, although it is connected to the 2nd outlet of a Vision Plus aerial amplifier/distrubution box.

When re-jigging the 12V electrics I did try to feed a cable from the front bed locker past the loo to the Hobby electric box in the wardrobe. I tried every which way but my patience ran out and I came up with an alternative wiring solution which didn't need a cable going past the loo.
Cheers, Doc.

I agree totally with Doc............use the TV cable that's there waiting below the artificial base to the wardrobe behind the fire, if you haven't already used it for something else.

OR

If you don't want to drill new holes through the floor, could you use holes that are already there for other purposes? Squeeze it through other cable holes perhaps? Or use the larger air vent holes through the floor?

Do let us know what you finally decide.

Cheers

Thanks Doc and Chubbs for your thoughts.

You have made me think of one solution which I might try.

I use the aeriel lead you talk of as I input the satallite from the side socket using the lead through to the TV cabinet which goes under the toilet.

What I might do to is to unscrew the aerial lead at the socket, attach a convenient length of string, and then pull the lead (and string) through at the other side of the toilet. I then attach another convenient piece of string at this end and use the first pice to pull the cable and second string back.

I then attach the cable I want to route to the last string and pull it back through (with another pice of string in case I want to try it again later!)

Does that make sense to you?

I did think of using a trained gerbil to pull it though but couldn't find one!

Stringing along

That's exactly what I did John over the wheel arch in my UF model. However the 90 turn in your UFe may cause the line to snag as it tries to straighten the bend. I left the second piece of string in place for any further "pull-throughs" in future. My God, that takes me back to my Army days!!

I have a trained Springer Spaniel that will go anywhere for a biscuit  you could tie a biscuit to a bit of string and the leads to her tail..........................
