Hi,
Just about to fit a Trauma Frostair to my Hobby 495 UFe I will keep you posted on the progress/ problems as they occur.

Has anyone got any advice before I start?

Have a 5 year old on hand to put it together for you :!: remember if the instructions are translated from German the Germans speak backwards so start at the back page and work backwards  Seriously good luck and remember some very good advice I received "measure twice cut once".

Hi Keith,
Sorry to hear your 5 year is working for a living! Thanks for the advice about the German language it's obvious when you think about it!

A couple of things will make this fitting unique:

1. I bought the unit off a German website! (half price brand new)

2. I am not going to use the pipes they provide but improvise!

Hi,
Thats the question I have been wrestling with, the Hobby 495 UFe doesn't seem to lend itself to this mod!

I will probably have to go through the floor, but it is the outlet positioning that is difficult.

Airconditioning

Postby mike732 » Mon Feb 14, 2005 7:41 pm

Hi All,
Received the unit OK, and I have been looking at various "bits of piping and tubing" The criteria is that it should not absorb moisture and be double lined, for insulation.

Thought this was a tall order until I noticed that here in Spain, builders use a red flexible tubing which is double lined so far so good.

Went to the local ferretea (diy store) and found some tubing with a converter which takes it from a tube to a length of channel.

The rough idea is to fit the unit, route the tubing under the caravan floor and back into the van at three different points, this is the point where the joint is used to convert the tubing into channel, to run up the inside of the van the first major problem is where to locate the vents as there are no natural breaks in the cupboard run! I am a bit stumped by this poser atm.

I also got hold of a new relay.

As far as parts go, all I need is a vent x3 with adjustable airflow and we are in business.

So the next step will be to fit the unit under the bed and start connecting everything up................more to follow

Happy Caravaning

Fitted and Working

Postby mike732 » Wed Jan 18, 2006 4:23 pm

Hi All,
Firstly I deceided to mount the unit under the bench seats nearest the door, main reason was that i could easily route the power supply cable and infra red receiver easily in the wardrobe. Secondly the outlets could only be located above the cupboards, this meant cutting right through cupboards left and right of the van above the bench seats. The "tubing" I decided on was electric trunking 50mm rectangular section, this fitted perfectly around the inside of the seating area and up through the cupboards.
A 90% angle cut made sure the trunking changed direction and allowed the cold air to flow over the seat area without restriction.
That was 2 of the 3 outlets taken care of the third vent was routed under the van using a length of 50 mm drainpipe! up and out through a vent outlet cut into the cupboard spacer next to the shower bulkhead.
On the 495 ufe this is the only way to get the cold air supply into the rear of the van. So to finish off I encased the front channel (uprights) with cornice matching the van interior wood colour perfectly. They also sit neatly behind the curtains as well. All that can be seen of the fittings are the 2 x front vents and the rear vent outlets. Works like a dream.
