We need to get something done about these silly laws. It needs to be changed. All for the sake of 20cm (8 inch). I could understand if it was a foot or so different. It should allow widths of 2.55m only if the van in ??m long. Should have nothing to do with GVW of the towing vehicle. Everyone will try and make the Van 85% of the towing vehicle, which in all cases would mean, the bigger the van, the bigger the tow car.
We need to write a letter to a few agencys.

We are not towing for gain so should not be punnished in this way. I myself own a E reg LR110, and have for a number of years. I use her off road on my farm towing 3.5 ton trailers (max plated towing weight of a 110) with no problem at all with how it follows. so why should a van that only weights 86% of my LR be more of a hazard just because it is 20cm (8 inch) wider than the same weight equilivant van. The only law should be that the trailer should not weigh more than the towing vehicle. Not all these silly width laws. Why should i go on holiday in a van?
If i have no takers for the letter i will write one myself. We need loads of them for them to listen. I am even happy to go visit a few people in high places about this.
Andrew
