No wonder certain elements and their Hobbies get a bad reputation, driving up the M5 from the west country towards the M4 last Saturday afternoon in driving rain we were passed by a red transit towing a brand new Hobby twin axle 8' wide with an Irish number written on cardboard as a number plate at 80 mph hogging the fast lane. Hope he's not a member A couple of weeks ago on the A1 heading south I passed another new 8' wide twin axle being towed by a toyota people carrier at 40mph swaying all over the place. As a member of HM constabulary all I can say is why do I not see these people when I am on duty Sometimes however we do get lucky we recently recovered a stolen quad bike from a "caravan site" when the tracker was activated and the force chopper found it parked next to mateys van Tracker rules OK

I know it will be opening up a can of worms,but as one of her majestys men in blue what is your view on towing a 2.50mtr wide hobby with a vehicle less than 3501 kilo,i am interested to know how our laws always seem to be able to be turned against the few that want to keep to them.

Hi John,

My own view is that the law in this respect is an ass. I have been lobbying my MP to get harmonisation with the EU. It particularly annoys me that so much of harmonisation works against us but when it will work for us we dont get it.

I tow with a Disco MAW 3,500 Kg and I'd like a little Hobby like Bob/Kim. I wonder if we could get Landrover UK to uprate the MAW of Discos 90s 110s and Range Rovers to 3,501 Kg What do you think
