towing 2.5m vans with transits

I am thinking of buying a new hobby and already have a 3.5 ton transit with a 137bhp engine, the perfect towing vehicle one would think. This transit and most other transit type vans have a maximum capacity of 3500kg. As I understand the law I would need a towing vehicle of greater capacity than this. That would mean that the towing vehicle would need to be in a different category than a light goods vehicle which means that if i.m correct most of the people towing wide hobby's with transits etc. are breaking the law anyway.

yes they are breaking the law. It seems as if a blind eye is turned to it, though. The biggest problem is insuring it, Although some companies will take your money just see what the position is if you try to make a claim, I bet they won't pay out so easily. Hence the reason we went for a 540 rather than the 560 that we really wanted.
