TEC 610 twin axle - a nearly Hobby!

Postby diamondsdame » Tue Jul 14, 2009 7:04 pm

Having got the best use out of our Pastiche over the past few years we had decided that by far and the best van to suit us pair of ole codgers and our three larger-than-life, albeit totally laid-back, Borzoi hounds, would be a Hobby twin axle; something with a side dinette that we can convert (as we have in the Coachman) into a huge doggy-bed with the removal of the bunk fixtures, then carpeting the walls/floor to avoid "lost" dog-hairs, thus allowing us to be able to convert it back to original prime condition for a new owner, without a trace of our lovely mutts. No intention of being dishonest here  not trying to use the "no smoking and no dogs" syndrome... we dont smoke and just dont believe that others should have to put up with our chosen family!
Anyway, to the point of all this....
A round trip of 630 miles at the week-end to view a Hobby that we were assured was just 9 years old and had not been a permanent home at any time proved fruitless - and yep, really was a 1996 'van belonging to circus folk..... no wonder they kept forgetting/ telling us their email was not working correctly and did not provide the badge details timely to us! So we came home with our cash and it is burnig a hole in the veritable pocket.
However a trip to the east coast today has turned up a TEC Weltbummler Creation 610 2004 model, going for £5995. It is CRiS registered, has all paperwork and is sound as a pound, having just spent over an hour looking over it between rain :P showers.
Does any-one know if this is a fair price for this, please? It seems too cheap to be reasonable and it is a bit worrying that they might be trying to dump some junk on us, although the van looks great. Respect that you are all Hobby buffs but if any-one has ever dabbled in these German brother-vans, it would be great to know, please, especially as there are not too many Hobbys around here in Scotland for that sort of money. The build is not quite so sturdy as Hobby but we are not heavy users with no kids so this is not a concern and it certainly is a nice looking 'van with everything present and in good working order. Any other comments or points to note would be much appreciated, too, however we do not need reminding about the 2.5m towing laws!!!
Cheers Hobby-chums!
