Does anyone know if its actually unsafe to tow a 2.5metre wide caravan provided you apply the same common sense that you would to a 2.3metre van in relation to power to weight ratios? I know it sounds a silly question but I do wonder if its time that towing regulations were updated. Not only in terms of wider vans but also in terms of maximum speed allowed on single carriageway roads.

A very astute observation David. There is a move afoot to try to have the regs updated for the very reasons you allude to. But this involves persuading MPs to take action, and perhaps UK manufacturers wouldn't like the additional competition that would bring from continental ranges where 2.5m wide is very common.

We can but try. Maybe UK manufacturers would like to make wider vans anyway too.

I myself have had my dreams shattered. I was going to get a LR110 and a hobby 650UFf, But allas the LR110 is under 3500GVW. This is annoying as the caravan is only 86% (i know its 1% more than 85%, but not bad considering the size of the van) of the LR110. Surely we can do something to get MP's to change the regulations. All sign a pertition or all of us send a letter, not only to our local MP but to mr blair etc. Get some TV and Radio publicity as well. We certainly need to do something.
