If you have the latest Thetford toilet with green plastic fittings are you using the funnel on the filler pipe? Without the funnel in place you cannot fill the flush tank. (it raises the filling level above the u bend in the pipe). The funnel should be stored between the filler pipe and the handle. If it is missing find a piece of pipe that is a tight fit in the filler to do the job. It is a good idea to place a piece of cloth under the filler to absorb any spills. The filler holds 150ml even after the tank is empty and to prevent freezing in winter this can be drained by rotating the filler pipe sideways.

I am wondering if it has been through a winter without being drained down and has a split. Empty the system then re-fill slowly and measure how many litres go in before in leaks. I will check the capacity of the tank and let you know how much it should hold.

17 litres? Martin did your original post mean...you had used the van once and when you filled the flush tank it overflowed? Or did you mean.....every time you fill it, before it overflows the filler pipe it leaks into the bedroom? If you do what Keith suggests perhaps you should remove the waste tank and spread some old cloths on the floor with a container on top to catch any spillage. This way you may be able to see where any leakage is coming from and if you add toilet fluid to colour the water it will be easier to see.
