Apologies for the long winded intro but I am led believe that you good caravanning folks are patient types so here I go!
Very new to all this!
Until yesterday I had no idea I wanted a caravan!
My dad was selling his because he is too old to tow (traffic scares him) and his car is a new focus 1.6 petrol auto which is I guess a bit small. I have a Pegueot 2 litre HDI expert which I expect will cope well with this 2 bearth van
I bought it from him as it just seemed so cheap!!!! £750 for something that you can live in if you felt so inclined seemed cheap indeed. It has tyres, windows and such, so I thought "why the heck not?" (its actually very nice) It has every extra you would wish for even down to the striped wind break!
I normally spend this sort of money in a hotel for a week so I figure I cant go wrong! Van has a new awning in the box that was 300 GBP which equates to more than a third of what the total package including everything right down to the fairy liquid cost me!
So, now the questions will begin.
Has anyone got instructions for Mardon Meridian? It seems to have gas heating and 240 as well as 12 Volt electrics. My dad has all instructions "somewhere in the loft" and I will probably get them 20 years from now! The 12 volt stuff he says has never worked but did go on to explain there exists no 12 volt battery so thats no big mystery!
There are an interesting array of rocker switches over the cooker. I hope someone can explain them.
There is a gas heating system and a gas oven, but my dad can't remember why the van has 2 electrical plugs on the front, one grey, one black but I bet you folks can tell me!
Do I need a special driving test to tow?
My Peugeot has only one socket on the tow bar? Where does the other one go?
The caravan seems to have a socket on the side for electrical "hook-up" so the one on the PUG must be for charging and the lights I guess Black or grey?
As you can tell, Im a complete numpty, but I have the abillity to learn
One last thing, my tow vehicle is a Peugeot expert van, should I expect to be welcomed at camp sites with this vehicle or will I be regarded as an outcast, and deemed fit only for a tent that leaks?
Thanks
Al
