Hello New to Hobbies

Postby april » Fri Sep 21, 2007 9:44 am

Hi I brought my first Hobby the other day, it is rather large to say the least, and i am wondering were to get inurance from for it as it is double axle and most dont seem to like the double axle ones.....

Another question I have is do they take 12volt batteries and if so where do u put it?

Thanks for any help to the above questions.......

Cheers

Hi april and welcome.

Hobby caravans do not come with a battery and charger as standard but many owners fit them.
There is much info. on the forum as to how to do it , however, see this posting for starters.

http://www.thecaravanownersclub.co.uk/f ... php?t=1261

This post contains two links, one for pre 2005 and one for 2005 and later.

Insurace for Hobbys over the 540 models can be difficult but try CIS (Co-operative Insurance) as many owners seem to be with them.
Again if you search the forum for "insurance" you should find lots of info.

Hi April
I insured my Hobby with Lister Paterick, but they insist on a cris number but give you 60 days to get it registered

Lister Patrick will probably have an excess for theft of £500...This is the company used by the brokers Adrian Flux Insurance...If you insure with the CIS the excess is only £50 and the van does NOT have to be CRIS registered...I also found that the CIS premium was £70 cheaper than Lister patrick
Over the last few years I have done alot of research with regard to Hobby insurance and I believe that the CIS cannot be beaten on the larger twin axle Hobby's...price is one thing reading the small print such as excesses and storage conditons should also be taken into account
Cheers

This site is great.
For a" newbee" like me and plenty of others since i've joined i'm sure its become a centre for helpful hints and advice that we can all use.
Hobbynut in particular you seem to be a mind of infomation, are you or have you been a hobby dealer or are you just a hobby guru through experience of ownership?

I am an eccentric according to people who know me well....if I take an interest in a subject then I like to know everything there is to know about it..If you have ever seen the television programme called New Tricks then I have been described as being like the character Brian Lane...the nutter who can recite volumes of information....in looks I bear an uncanny resemblance to a guy called Lou Carpenter who appears in the TV programme Neighbours..
So I am also heavily into electronic and pipe organs, in particular ones manufactured by the German company called Wersi
So you see I am quite mad really but at least I know I am....the ones you need to look out for are the ones who are mad but think they are normal !!!!!!!

If you have read the above post then it may come as no surprise that I record details of phone calls and make notes and then file them for future use either for my benefit or the benefit of others...my Lister Patrick notes show an excess of £100 for theft of Accessories but £500 for theft of van or break-in..However if you have been with them a while you may well be getting preferential rates...I was happy being insured with the Caravanning and Camping Club for 5 years until they discovered that my van wasn't CRIS registered and said it should have been from day one ...however when I took out the policy they neglected to tell me about this..hence my change...CIS phone number is 0845 746 46 46 it then gives you options by pressing buttons, the one you need to press is Household Insurance
