Foglights/Reversing Lights

Postby bfgmercman » Tue Jun 06, 2006 4:02 pm

Just about to take delivery of a 650 KFU to be towed by my new Mercedes ML. I live out in Germany and find the whole 2.3m v 2.5m debate great! Every where in Europe you can tow this van apart from UK! Never mind, at least I can enjoyy the full potential out here.

One question; does every one have a part number for the plastic bulb holders in order that I can have two foglights and a pair of reversing lights. Any tips and contact details of suppliers would be great.

Look forward to using the forums. :D

I fitted twin fogs and reverse on our old hobby. dont know a part code but take care drilling the rear off the holders - apply grease so that the bits stick to the drill 8) it works.

also increase earth cable as extra loaded with lamps

Use a tapered hole saw, very gently, to remove the blanking sections of the lights. The bulb holders are difficult to obtain. I got mine direct from Hella U.K. but try a caravan Dealer who may have damaged Caraluna lamps that he has replaced from which you can remove the bulb holders. I also converted my stop lamps to a double filament bulb holder to provide a second rear light on each side. The main cable on the Hobby isn't 13 core. It only has 11 cores! You will need to tape an additional cable from the plug to the internal junction box and, again from there to the lamps at the back. An additional/replacement earth cable is advisable in view of the extra current being carried with these mods. Good luck. It is easy, but time consuming.
