Pig in a poke? i hope not

Postby wheelie47 » Fri Jul 03, 2009 10:29 pm

Hi there i've been working hard on a hobby 535 i picked up a month or 2 ago and the problems seem to be never ending.Having already rebuilt the very weak seating frame and bed frame, replacing about every internal bulb, stripping and servicing the carmen gas burners etc i keep finding new problems and where as i usualy have a big stomach for projects this b<<<r is making a tad weary, 1/ the fuse located above the pull out thetford toilet blows instantly when one pushes the button to rinse the toilet, the original fuse has 2 stamped on it so i fitted a 3 amp amd it blew again? does anyone know the correct rating of this fuse
? do the pumps fail and cause this short? Secondly the bloody fridge does not work, there is a green led switch to the left of the gas hob adjusters and there is 240 volts passing through it, the smaller red led to the left of the green one appears to be a 12 wiring line but there is no voltage on it? it is an electro lux fridge and the van is 1996,i see there is an isolater under the sink area with a gas symbol denoting for a fridge, should it work on 240 volts alone or does it require gas also ? could realy use some help from an experienced hobby owner, cheers George.

Things have changed a bit since 96 , but as a start ... re cassette fuse, it could be that the pump is stuck solid ,.. it often happens if left for some time, it’s inside the toilet water tank, I expect you have the Thetford with the toilet roll holder sunk into the seat area, if so remove it and the pump is in there, put you hand in and grope around, , pull it out, there should be enough cable and plastic tube to allow it,, and at the bottom there you will see the stainless steel pump paddle,.. free it with a small pointed driver and then press the flush button, . it should spin and you should see and hear it….
The fridge will run on either 240v or 12 volt (when connected to the car and the engine running) or gas, the gas tap you refer to is to isolate the gas to the fridge turn it on, select “gas” on the control and hold in… and press the gas lighter button,, click it a few times, you may hear the gas pop and light, there may be a small round window in the bottom of the inside of the fridge about as big as a 50 pence, if so you should be able to see the flame through it. The 240 side of the unit should start as soon as you switch to 240v. and the green light should glow, hope this helps..
