The 540's have on-board tank and so to get you home you'll be fine filling the tank from outside via the filler or in.

I have a 12v socket on the outside of mine and pump the water on.

So do I, nice blue 7 litre one to match the van. Five trips to the water point to fill the inboard tank and provide exercise. Mind you, have got a length of hose if I am near enough and am seriously thinking of fitting a home made "city wasser" system for my continental trips where taps with hose connector threads abound. If anybody is interested I have got 2 Whale mains water connector blocks with pressure reducing valves surplus to requirements (you will need the Whale inlet on the van). PM for details.

540 water supply

Postby peterplymouth » Fri Feb 10, 2006 6:58 pm

Watering can worked fine on my 540 for 6 months - now I have an external connection for a whale submersible pump which is more convenient - you can fill the tank from an aquaroll ( I have used the unwanted extractor fan switch above the sink for this purpose).
Good luck

I use a 14 litre plastic watering can, I can think of better things to carry than a heavy aquaroll!!!

Thats the point Roy - you roll it. After a a while I realised using the whale pump and aquaroll beats 4 trips to the tap carrying a 12kg watering can every time you want to fill the onboard tank, but everyone has their own preference.

I fiitted an auxiliary Carver water inlet unit to the side of the 'van so that I could choose either an external or the internal water system. However, I now rarely use the aquaroll, preferring to carry a watering can to top up the inboard tank instead, most of the time. So I leave the rather heavy and bulky aquaroll at home out of the way!

I also tend to fill up on arival at sites, using the motorhome point. Saves a lot of hassle on "day one"!

Watering can is fine......but wat do you folks do if you are a fair walk from the tap. I assume you go back a few times.....I would rather fill up, sit donw and open a beer !!!!

Waterworks again

Postby mac » Thu Jul 31, 2008 12:05 pm

Like many of you I use a watering can (if the hose wont reach), to top up the inboard tank but notice some water escaping from underneath the van with each fill. It's not an overflow from the tank, also the overflow pipe is screwed in tight & I cant see any problem with the connections between tank and input fitting on the side of the van as the circlips are tight.
It's worrying because I understand that Hobby dont use marine grade ply on their floors.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem please?

It is normal for excess water to escape under the caravan when you overfill the tank, I always fill mine until I hear the water escaping. Hobby caravans are made this way.

As Mac .States " It is not an overflow from the tank" I would have a closer look under the van when filling, if it's from the overflow it will be clearly seen,if not there may be a problem worth checking

Waterworks again

Postby mac » Fri Aug 01, 2008 8:54 pm

Thank you both, I will strip some of the assembly out & investigate further. Just to confirm, the leak takes place each time I use the watering can, its inboard and takes place with every fill even during the first pour into an empty tank. There is no leakage once filling is complete. On reflection I think it must be a crack in the connection hose between the entry portl & tank. I will return with the result in case anyone else hits this problem.

Cheers

Mac
