change jocky wheel

Postby nigel129 » Sun Apr 18, 2010 2:53 am

after many years of waiting for old age to catch me up,, ive finally ordered a Powrtouch HD. How ever, ive heard it said on may occasions that movers prefer to be used with a pneumatic jockey wheel.

question 1. can i just change the cheap and nasty original wheel or do i have to buy the whole leg.

question 2. does using a pneumatic jockey wheel change the riding hight of the wheel when retracted into the A frame housing.

question 3. any preference or difference in getting a plastic rim wheel or a metal rim.

question 4. If youve done this swap over, any chance of specific info on fitting, where you purchased your pneumatic jockey wheel, diameter of wheel and centre, thickness and any probs i should be aware of.(web site links to exact wheel appreciated)

Thanks for any help, van back in storage at moment so difficult to get at.

Jockey wheel

Hi Nigel

We've had a PowrTouch on our 495Ufe ever since we've had it (bought new in Belgium 2006) and wouldn't be without it!

I started off with the standard hard wheel then changed it for a pneumatic one - I bought the whole assembly from my local caravan dealer (Winterfoff with the built in guage just like the original) But then I like to have a spare of everythin, just inc ase!!!!!!!

The first wheel was on a plastic rim and useless - wouldn't hold pressure so I changed the wheel for a metal rim and have had no problems with it.

The solid wheel is fine on a smooth surface but on soft ground or rough gravel the pneumatic one is miles better

Hope that helps

Brian

PS - can't say I find the posting from CrazyB1tchNDAD funny in the slightest - I assume it was some pathetic attempt at humour?
