Master Keys

Postby FMac » Wed Nov 23, 2005 9:31 am

As you may have seen, I'm looking to buy a Hobby.

Whilst looking around, one thing has concerned me. My local dealer has a master key that opens all the caravans.

    Is this normal?
How easy is it to get a hold of these master keys?
    Can they be copied?
Can the locks on a caravan be changed?
How easy/expensive is this to do?

I'm fully aware that a caravan isn't a Fort Knox replica, but this seems a dealer convenience too far.

I bet there is a master key for every lock made. I dropped my van in for a service and forgot to leave the keys so they used the master.

Why worry about a master key when a screw driver will open the door as fast as a key, at least if the thief has a master key you wont have to pay to replace the whole lock mechanism!
