Date for buying

Postby Sailor » Fri Aug 12, 2005 7:16 pm

Good evening,

We are considering a new Hobby, however, after reading through all the previous posts, would I be correct in thinking that we would be as well waiting a few weeks to see what the new 2006 models bring and what deals might be available on existing tock?

Many thanks for any insights/comments,

I was in Joerssens the other day and FJ said there was very little differance for the 2006 model. He said major changes occur every 2 years. The 2005 560 kmfe has picked up lots of new bits compared to my 2004.

New Excelsior models??

Postby Doc » Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:56 am

Well folks, in two French mags I bought on holiday, there are sections on the new models for 2006, including Hobbys.

Although my French was put under some strain, I think I've gleaned the following;

The Excelsior range is expanded to include the 540 (only 2.3m wide) UL, UF and UFe models; although leather upholstery is now an option rather than standard.

Both mags refer to a new 'special' Excelsior 520TMF and the 'Special' could be that it's made just for the French market.
It has a kitchen and toilet room at the rear, a central U-shaped dinette, with a fixed, lateral, double bed in a separate bedroom up front. Does seem that you have to travel the length of the 'van to make a nightly 'comfort' break!! This sort of layout does seem popular in France so it may well be it's just for the French.

There's a new 410SFe Excellent, and the 495 UL and UK are 15cm longer making the kitchen area bigger with it's L-shaped section incorporating a larger TV turntable thingy.

Anyone going to the Dusseldorf show? Ed???
Cheers, Doc.

Many thanks,

I guess we will wait a few weeks and just see what we can find. I did call Charles Edwards, dealers near Cambridge as they are our nearest one and he said that they didn't have any small (!) ones available now, we are interested in the 540 wlu, and there probably wouldn't be any available in the UK until the 2006 models come onstream. If that's the case, it looks as though my choices are somewhat limited.

Regards,

Colin

You surmise correctly, Colin. It's a bit of a lottery in trying to get an end-of-season model. I tried it 4 years ago, with German dealers, but my model was all sold out. In fact the new ones were practically all sold out by the Christmas, when I ordered mine, . . . . for delivery at end of June beginning of July!!

It does depend on the model of course, but the 540 WLU has proved incredibly popular in 2005, so I'd start enquiring now, for delivery in 2006!!
Cheers, Doc.
