Campsites in Germany

Postby candlefish » Mon Jun 06, 2005 10:57 pm

Hi guys. It's your chance to shine: 8)

Mrs C and I, and the 2 tearaways are soon to head off to Joeressens to perform "the collect" and we would like to know if anyone can recommend a site within about 30 miles (towards Aachen please).

If not, can anyone recommend a site nearish, for a couple of nights.

Play-park essential! Pool would be nice! :P

Thanks in advance.

Nearest site is Camping Lelefeld but it doesn't have any play/pool facilities.
It is handy if you wish to do a confidence check on your new caravan or to re-visit Joeressens accessory shop, you will need cash as thankfully they do not accept cheques or credit cards but my Maestro debit card hit the limit!!!
Klaus Josef will book you onto the site if you e-mail him.

If you want a site with pool etc then really you need to head north and up towards Venlo. Dutch campsites excell at that sort of thing. You could then go home via Antwerp.

I can give you a list of good sites near the motorway home and only 40 mins from Joerssens.

Avoid the motorway around Antwerp, there are long term major roadworks and it took me over 1 hour to drive 3 miles 2 weeks ago.
Go via Brussels.

Thanks for the replies. Once again you have helped.
We've looked at the camping Lelefeld website, and it looks ok.

Can anyone remember if it has a playpark? It's not essential, but after the drive from Scotland, they will need let loose somewhere

Spyder, could you post the details of some Dutch campsites, or PM me?

Roy, thanks for the Antwerp warning. We got held up last October in long queues, and I remember narrow lanes which is something I will definitely want to avoid!

If anyone else wants to contribute some other sites in Germany, please feel free. I tried the "caravan sites" section of the website, but it is possibly not working yet? Does anyone know?

Cheers

Camping Lelefeld does not have a playpark but there may be one and a pool in the town.
I would call Herr Blut and ask, he speaks very good English and his wife I believe is American.

Hi Lelefeld is 95% static the touring area is really small and run down. There are no play areas and the village is quiet. I recommend Vrijetidspark Elfenmeer Roermond about 30 miles from Joeressons. This is a large park 45% touring each pitch has its own water electric and grey water point. Two swimming pools snack bar restaurant entertainment cycle hire mini-golf Eng spoken. Close to Maastrich and shopping complex. Very well kept showers etc very good. about €30 per night but excellent for kids.

Camping Lelefeld etc.

Postby Doc » Wed Jun 08, 2005 7:48 pm

David, Paul, Roy et al.,

I was at Camping Lelefeld last week for my 'van service at F-J's. Friendly Herr Blut put me opposite reception, but I don't recall any kiddies play facilities, although it is right by a wood.

North of Elmpt (Camping Lelefeld) and North of the road from Bruggen to Swalmen, in Holland, is a large, enclosed Naturepark, surrounded by a high fence with large turnstile type gates to allow bikes through. There are loads of trails inside the park many tarmaced for bike-riding.

Last year I visited, just for a look-see, a very large Dutch site S. of Roermond, at Herkenbosch, called Elfenmeer Rekriatiepark; see http://www.elfenmeer.nl/. But it's in Dutch, or even double dutch!
It has loads of facilities for little (and big) kids; swimming pools, games rooms, swings etc. and looked a very neat site within a wooded area. Very large garden centre just down the road.
It's not that far (~20min) west of Lelefeld, just over the border.

BTW turns out I had a leaking shock absorber which needed replacing; naughty Mr. BPW. 50€ for a s/h one. 110€ new!!!
Cheers, Doc.

Well, after all that, we went for 2 nights to Mr Blut's.

It was spotlessly clean, and very near, and the easy option! The children just got on and invented some games to keep themselves occupied while Mrs C and I played with the new Hobby!

First impressions were great (apart from the torrential rain and thunderstorms, and having to find a garage on day 2 for the car which had a stone caught in the brakes - actually, if you do get a stone in the brakes, the best garage is the peugeot one in Roermond, which has a mechanic who comes from Ayrshire and speaks quite good English!)

So we are home and delighted. I might be back with some more questions later, like where should pin3 on the 7-s connection go to on the 13 pin, as our lead doesn't have this wire, and I think we need it to charge the battery while on the road.........

But that's minor. Catch you later, and thanks to all of you who have answered many questions so far! Cheers

David. :D
